Yoga and Meditation for Deaf Children

the Karma Project

United We Om feels blessed to support mindfulness, meditation and yoga classes, taught in American Sign Language for Deaf children living in the Boston area.

Elisabeth Sanders, a Yoga teacher and School Psychologist, will utilize her training in social-emotional-learning and yoga to offer expanded programming, both after school and in the summer, teaching the Deaf children self-regulation, self-love, mindfulness and yoga in their own language.

As a school psychologist for Deaf students and a trained yoga teacher with fluency in American Sign Language, Elisabeth Saunders is uniquely qualified to share yoga practice and provide mental health support to this underrepresented population of Deaf children.

Elisabeth has worked with Deaf adults, colleagues, and parents for nearly 20 years. Elisabeth creates partnerships with hospitals and community agencies to work toward improving the systems of support at the community and state level.

Elisabeth shared with United We Om, “I value and highly respect the Deaf culture, the richness of American Sign Language and the unique experiences and resilience of so many Deaf individuals.”
